Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 3E42493 - The interior concourse of Warrington Bus stock-photo/gotonysmith-Interchange.html?sortBy=relevant&pseudoid=237DAF28-A4ED-4448-8173-C0E81ABEEC6F Target=_Blank>Interchange is shown with the Travel Information Centre, red upper wall panels, passenger waiting areas, stand entrances and people moving through the transport hub. The image is a useful editorial view of everyday public transport in Warrington town centre, showing commuters, shoppers, school and college users, visitors and local passengers using a modern bus station linked to the Golden Square shopping centre and close to Warrington Central railway station. Warrington Borough Council says it owns and manages the Bus Interchange, which is near Warrington Central rail station, and AccessAble gives the interchange address as Winwick Street, Warrington, WA1 1XW. Warrington's Own Buses says its Travel Shop at Warrington Interchange provides ticket sales, general enquiries, timetables and route information. The photograph is commercially useful for stories about bus services, passenger footfall, local transport, public transport funding, town centre accessibility, route information, timetable advice, integrated transport, transport interchanges and the role of buses in reducing car dependency. It can also illustrate the challenges facing town centres, including commuter patterns, retail access, passenger safety, evening service levels, concessionary travel, fare policy and the practical dependence of many residents on reliable local bus networks. The visible concourse, information office, glass doors, red architectural detailing, stand signage and passengers give the scene strong documentary value for transport policy, municipal bus operation, urban regeneration and local authority infrastructure. As a stock image, it records the inside of a working bus interchange rather than a staged transport scene, making it useful for articles about local and regional mobility, waiting environments, accessibility, customer information, passenger flows and the everyday public spaces that keep a town connected.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2T19PG5 - Warrington Oktoberfest is back, and it will be held once again at Warrington's Parr Hall later this year. More info at www.warringtonoktoberfest.org.uk
The event is organised by Rotary Warrington, with all profits from the festival going to good causes.
A must-visit for beer aficionados, the festival will include dozens of speciality brews, imported ales, and drinks of varying strengths and tastes.
There will also be a gin and fizz bar, a cider bar, and a driver's bar available during the event, too.
Warrington Oktoberfest will be held at Parr Hall between October 12-14.
There will be traditional Oktoberfest-style food available throughout the event, which is set to be supplied by Warrington's 'best for burgers 2023' Cafe at the End of the Universe.
Speaking to the Warrington Guardian, one of the event's organisers - Samantha Bridger - said that the whole group has been 'blown away' by the support provided by sponsors of the event.
She said: All our sponsors are amazing, and they help with everything from the set up, to equipment, money, and even the racking used for beer kegs.
In terms of ticket costs, Samantha said: We are delighted to say that tickets are £10, which we think is phenomenally cheap, and we're selling them in advance - which includes a small booking fee.
Tickets will be available on the door, too, if we have any left.
There will be live music performed across the event, with the following bands playing across the festival:
The Pink Pumps
Fairchild Robinson
The Red River Band
It has also been announced that drinks can be purchased via a token system.
For any cask ale that is marked at less than five per cent alcohol content, it costs one green token per half pint.
Ales marked as stronger than five per cent cost one yellow token per half pint.
No-alcohol drinks, plus prosecco and gins are marked at costing one yellow token.
For £10, attendees will receive five green tokens, or 11 tokens for £20.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2RXX27R - Taken on 25 Sep 2023, this photograph shows Position Closed ticket window at Victoria railway station at Manchester, England, UK, M3 1WY - in / out. The location is Victoria Station Approach, Manchester, England, UK, M3 1WY. The picture is not just a record shot: it contains platform, concourse or service signage details that place the railway scene in a real working transport environment. Manchester Victoria has long been part of the city's railway geography, with historic route maps and ticket-window details showing how rail travel has shaped Greater Manchester and the wider north west. It is useful for transport features covering rail operations, passenger information, regional connectivity, station modernisation, public investment and the everyday reality of travel in Britain. For image buyers, the value is in the combination of recognisable subject, readable wording, location evidence and a plain documentary style that can be dropped into news, magazine, web, council, housing, transport, heritage or commercial commentary without looking over-produced. Searchable related phrases include Manchester, city, centre, railway, Victoria, station, M3 1WY, campaign, RMT, offices, history, historic, plus wider ideas such as local identity, public realm, urban detail, social history, commercial change, everyday Britain, documentary photography and place-based storytelling. The composition gives designers scope for captions, page furniture, social media crops, report covers and article thumbnails, while the detailed captioning makes it more discoverable for searches using both specific place names and broader themes. It has value for both local and national stories, especially where writers need to connect a named place or object with wider economic, social, environmental or cultural change.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2RXX289 - Taken on 25 Sep 2023, this photograph shows Season Ticket season 1981/82, Manchester City Football club - Kippax St - Maine Road. The location is Kippax St, Manchester, England, UK, M14 7WE. The picture is not just a record shot: it contains aged paper, printed match details and period typography, making the football memorabilia visually authentic. The Maine Road season-ticket reference points to Manchester City before the Premier League era, when the Kippax was central to matchday identity and football support was documented through simple paper tickets. It would work for sport-history features, football nostalgia, fan culture, memorabilia collecting, stadium stories, matchday economics and the growth of football as a global commercial product. For image buyers, the value is in the combination of recognisable subject, readable wording, location evidence and a plain documentary style that can be dropped into news, magazine, web, council, housing, transport, heritage or commercial commentary without looking over-produced. Searchable related phrases include Manchester, city, centre, Manchester City, MCFC, football, club, Kippax, Maine Road, history, historic, heritage, plus wider ideas such as local identity, public realm, urban detail, social history, commercial change, everyday Britain, documentary photography and place-based storytelling. The composition gives designers scope for captions, page furniture, social media crops, report covers and article thumbnails, while the detailed captioning makes it more discoverable for searches using both specific place names and broader themes. This makes the image useful for comparison pieces, then-and-now features, local news, regeneration stories and plain-English explainers aimed at a general audience. Further SEO-friendly usage could include local services, town-centre change, heritage branding, British social history, publ.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 3EFHRNJ - 1966 FIFA World Cup ticket stubs displayed together, including Goodison Park tickets for matches in Liverpool and a Wembley Stadium final tie ticket from Saturday 30 July 1966. The visible Goodison Park tickets include an eighth-final group-stage ticket for Tuesday 12 July, a quarter-final ticket for Saturday 23 July and a semi-final ticket for Monday 25 July, all marked for the Gwladys Street terrace at Everton's historic ground. The display also includes an Empire Stadium Wembley ticket for the World Championship Jules Rimet Cup final tie, with East standing enclosure and entrance details printed on the stub. These small paper objects are valuable football ephemera from the tournament England hosted and won, beating West Germany 4-2 after extra time at Wembley. Goodison Park was one of the major provincial venues of the 1966 World Cup, staging Brazil v Bulgaria on 12 July, Portugal v Korea DPR on 23 July and West Germany v Soviet Union on 25 July. The quarter-final became one of the tournament's great matches, as Korea DPR took a shock 3-0 lead before Portugal won 5-3 with Eusébio central to the comeback. The tickets are useful for editorial coverage of football history, Everton, Goodison Park, Wembley, England 1966, World Cup memorabilia, sports collecting, historic paper ephemera, stadium heritage, tournament organisation and the culture of match-going before digital ticketing. Their printed prices, terrace labels, turnstile information, paper wear, punched holes and display mounting all add strong archival value. The image can also illustrate nostalgia for Goodison Park, the changing economics of football, standing terraces, 1960s sports design, football tourism and the enduring mythology of England's only men's World Cup victory. It is especially relevant as Goodison Park's long football story gives way to Everton's new stadium era.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2RFER1D - A penalty charge notice from Cardiff council, is an official notification that you have been found to have committed a minor offence, for which there is a standard penalty charge. PCN are used to streamline the process of penalising minor offenders, without the expense and complication of legal proceedings.
Any offence that has a standard penalty charge, is not an offence that you can be prosecuted for. A penalty charge is not the same thing as an enforceable fine. That being said, you can't just ignore a PCN. You will need to either appeal against it or pay it.
Cardiff council issues Penalty Charge Notices (PCN) for a number of reasons. However, the most common reasons why you might either find one attached to your vehicle or be sent one by post, are for minor traffic rule infractions and parking offences.
If you are issued with a PCN, what do you need to do with it? Can you ignore it, or do you have to pay it? Or is there some way to make an appeal against the PCN?
You can't pay a penalty charge notice in instalments. There are three ways to pay a Cardiff council penalty charge notice. You can pay online, as long as you know the PCN number and have a credit or debit card. There is also a payment hotline that is open 7 days a week, around the clock. You can call 029 2044 5900 and give the PCN number, and then pay using a payment card. Lastly, you can make out a cheque or postal order to Cardiff Council, write the PCN number on the back, and then post it to the following address:

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2RBXAM5 - Waterloo station also known as London Waterloo, is a central London terminus on the National Rail network in the United Kingdom, in the Waterloo area of the London Borough of Lambeth. It is connected to a London Underground station of the same name and is adjacent to Waterloo East station on the South Eastern Main Line. The station is the terminus of the South West Main Line to Weymouth via Southampton, the West of England main line to Exeter via Salisbury, the Portsmouth Direct line to Portsmouth Harbour which connects with ferry services to the Isle of Wight, and several commuter services around west and south-west London, Surrey, Hampshire and Berkshire.
The station was opened in 1848 by the London and South Western Railway, and it replaced the earlier Nine Elms as it was closer to the West End. It was never designed to be a terminus, as the original intention was to continue the line towards the City of London, and consequently the station developed in a haphazard fashion, leading to difficulty finding the correct platform. The station was rebuilt in the early 20th century, opening in 1922, and included the Victory Arch over the main entrance, which commemorated World War I. Waterloo was the last London terminus to provide steam-powered services, which ended in 1967. The station was the London terminus for Eurostar international trains from 1994 until 2007, when they were transferred to St. Pancras.
Waterloo is the busiest railway station in the UK, handling 41 million passengers in the year to March 2022. It is also the UK's largest station in terms of floor space and has the greatest number of platforms.

The image is suitable for editorial and commercial use relating to UK transport, rail policy, commuting, travel costs, public services, and mobility, as well as conceptual illustrations of journeys, schedules, and everyday travel administration.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2R59WP4 - This photograph shows a bright yellow directional sign for the Neighbourhood Weekender festival, positioned on a grassy verge in Warrington, Cheshire. The sign features bold black text reading Neighbourhood Weekender, accompanied by a pedestrian symbol and a right-pointing arrow, clearly indicating the walking route towards the event location.
Neighbourhood Weekender is a large outdoor music festival held annually in Warrington, typically in Victoria Park, and has become a significant fixture in the North West of England's live music calendar. The use of high-visibility yellow colouring and simple graphic symbols reflects practical event wayfinding design, intended to be easily readable by large numbers of festivalgoers moving through public spaces.
The image appears to have been taken in daylight during the late spring or summer months, suggested by the green grass and bright natural light. The sign shows minor wear and surface marks, consistent with temporary outdoor signage used during multi-day public events.
Images like this are commonly used to illustrate themes of British festival culture, live music events, community gatherings, urban parks, and temporary public signage. It captures an everyday but recognisable detail of large-scale outdoor events in the UK, where clear pedestrian guidance is essential to managing crowds and movement within shared public spaces.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2R3YB5P - Liverpool Street station, also known as London Liverpool Street, is a central London railway terminus and connected London Underground station in the north-eastern corner of the City of London, in the ward of Bishopsgate Without. It is the terminus of the West Anglia Main Line to Cambridge, the Great Eastern Main Line to Norwich, commuter trains serving east London and destinations in the East of England, and the Stansted Express service to Stansted Airport.
The station opened in 1874, as a replacement for Bishopsgate station as the Great Eastern Railway's main London terminus. By 1895, it had the most platforms of any London terminal station. During the First World War, an air raid on the station killed 16 on site, and 146 others in nearby areas. In the build-up to the Second World War, the station served as the entry point for thousands of child refugees arriving in London as part of the Kindertransport rescue mission. The station was damaged by the 1993 Bishopsgate bombing and, during the 7 July 2005 bombing, seven passengers were killed when a bomb exploded aboard an Underground train, just after it had departed from Liverpool Street. Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2R3YB63 - Liverpool Street station, also known as London Liverpool Street, is a central London railway terminus and connected London Underground station in the north-eastern corner of the City of London, in the ward of Bishopsgate Without.
They are considered to be among the pioneers of heavy metal and modern hard rock, but their musical approach has changed over the years. Originally formed as a psychedelic rock and progressive rock band, they shifted to a heavier sound with their 1970 album Deep Purple in Rock. Deep Purple (together with Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath) have been referred to as the unholy trinity of British hard rock and heavy metal in the early to mid-seventies. They were listed in the 1975 Guinness Book of World Records as the globe's loudest band for a 1972 concert at London's Rainbow Theatre and have sold over 100 million albums worldwide

Venue Cymru is a theatre, conference centre and arena in Llandudno, Conwy County Borough, North Wales. Formerly known as the Aberconwy Centre and the North Wales Theatre and Conference Centre, it is now a large arts, conference and events venue. Venue Cymru has a theatre, conference centre, and arena.
In 1900 it was renamed the Llandudno Opera House. It hosted the Carl Rosa Opera Company.
It was renamed as the Hippodrome, and was used as a roller-skating rink, a dance hall and for summer shows
The theatre was purchased by Will Catlin on 3 June 1916. It was renamed as the Arcadia. The theatre had 1,147 seats, and was one of six theatres in Llandudno to last for many years. It was the home of Catlin's Peirrots and Catlin's Showtime. Ken Dodd was a regular performer
It closed on 22 June 1994, and was derelict for the next decade, before being demolished in July 2005
The Aberconwy Centre opened to the west of the Arcadia theatre in 1982. The conference venue had space for over 1,000 conference attendees. It was redeveloped in 1994, and it was renamed as the North Wales Theatre and Conference Centre. It hosted a 1,500-seat auditorium/theatre, as well as a 700 square metres (7,500 sq ft) conference hall with capacity for 800 seated, or 1,000 standing, people
In July 2005 the Arcadia theatre was demolished to make way for an atrium and meeting and conference rooms adjoining the North Wales Theatre and Conference Centre. The building was also extended to the west. After the redevelopment, the venue hosted a new 1,550 square metres (16,700 sq ft) arena, capable of hosting 1,800 seated, or 2,500 standing people, increasing the overall capacity of the venue to over 5,000 people. The western extension incorporated a café, restaurant and a box office, as well as office space.
The redevelopment cost £10.7 million, which was provided by Conwy County Borough Council, the European Union's Objective One Fund program, the Arts Council of Wales & Visit Wales

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2PG60X6 - Godalming Borough Hall is a municipal building in Bridge Street in Godalming, England. The building is the meeting place of Godalming Town Council.
Following significant population growth, especially after the London and South Western Railway reached the town in 1849, the area became a municipal borough with the Pepper Pot as its town hall in 1875. In May 1907 tenders were invited from contractors to extend the public hall in Bridge Street to the west to create new municipal buildings for the borough. The extension was built in red brick with stone dressings and the work was completed in 1908. The design of the enlarged structure involved an asymmetrical main frontage with ten bays facing onto Bridge Street
the central section of three bays, which slightly projected forward, featured arcading on the ground floor, three sash windows with stone surrounds on the first floor and a pediment above with an oculus in the tympanum. The left hand section featured, in the central bay, a doorway with a canopy on the ground floor and a panel containing the borough coat of arms on the first floor. The right hand section featured, in the end bay which slightly projected forward, a round headed doorway on the ground floor and a tri-part sash window on the first floor with a pediment above.
The building continued to serve as the meeting place of Godalming Borough Council for much of the 20th century, but ceased to be the local seat of government when Waverley Borough Council was formed with its headquarters in Guildford in 1974. Waverley Council moved to new council offices in The Burys just behind the borough hall in 1980. The borough hall subsequently became the meeting place for Godalming Town Council.
Works of art in the borough hall include a portrait by Godfrey Kneller of the locally-born sailor, Admiral Sir John Balchen, who became governor of the Greenwich Naval Hospital in March 1743

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2MKF7XX - In the autumn of 1943 a small group of nine people met in a small studio near the Parish Church to discuss the formation of a play - reading and discussion group. Wigan Little Theatre came into being as a Friendly Society.
56a Market Street, became the headquarters
On weeknights one could find pieces of sets in construction or the actors in rehearsal, in the knowledge that the set had to be erected on a stage on a Monday night, and the play dress-rehearsed on the Tuesday.
That stage was at St. Michael's Hall in Shaw Street, and it was to be the group's platform for three and a half years. Four hundred Wiganers were now members and the financial success of the productions in following months, together with monies raised by private efforts, enabled the pioneers to plunge.
While the reign at St. Michael's was blooming, the committee had taken an option on the derelict cinema, which is now our theatre, and the sojourn at 56a ended, for all rehearsals and preparation could now be held in the equally spare surroundings of the Alliance. This was in 1946, and it was a condition of the building license for its conversion, that as many jobs as could be done by amateur labour should be. Expert advice duly delegated to eager novices directed the stripping of plaster and pickaxing of underground passageways each evening, while by day the joiners and plasterers spread their masking finishes
The final weeks of preparation were frenzied. By February 1948, productions had raised £850, interest free loans had been encouraged to the tune of £820, members' private efforts had brought in £1,450 and the scheme by which our supporters endowed seats in the theatre at £5 each had produced £500.
In all, when the theatre opened, £3,500 had been raised to cover the deposit on the building and necessary alterations amounting to £2,500. This was followed by a generous interest free loan of £4,000 by Mr. F. T. Hanson, which put the theatre on a solid footing.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2M369GH - Edinburgh Trams is a tramway in Edinburgh, Scotland, operated by Edinburgh Trams Ltd. It is a 14-kilometre (8.7 mi) line between St Andrew Square in the New Town and Edinburgh Airport, with 15 stops.
Construction began in June 2008, and after encountering delays it opened on 31 May 2014. The scheme had an initial estimated cost of £375 million in 2003, but by May 2008, when contracts were signed, the cost had risen to £521 million. The final cost after delays was £776 million.
After running for two years, the scheme had achieved pre-tax profitability (excluding maintenance and infrastructure costs) and exceeded the original ridership targets. It has run at an operating loss since 2018 (e.g. −£9.4 million in 2018). On 14 March 2019, Edinburgh Council voted to approve the extension of the existing line from York Place to Newhaven. The extended line is due to be operational by early 2023

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2KG7YAR - How does Ticketmaster's dynamic pricing work?
The dynamic-pricing system has been used in the United Kingdom for recent sales of tickets to Harry Styles, Coldplay, and Blackpink gigs.
A new Ticketmaster pricing system that alters the price of tickets based on demand is being criticised by fans and industry experts.
The dynamic-pricing system has been used in the United Kingdom for recent sales of tickets to Harry Styles, Coldplay, and Blackpink gigs.
It's regularly employed in the United States, where resale is a lot bigger, and touting is much more prevalent, reports the BBC.
Ticketmaster has now said that it is being used in order to try to stop touts, and to give more money back to artists.
Here's everything you need to know about the system, and how it works.
How does Ticketmaster's new demand-based pricing system work?
On the Ticketmaster page for Harry Styles's tour, a notice explains how its new demand-based system works.
It reads: These tickets vary in price driven by demand from fans, similar to airline tickets and hotel rooms.
We give fans an opportunity to safely buy official tickets for the events they love, right up to the date of the show.
This new pricing system means that Ticketmaster does not publicise ticket costs ahead of time, instead, they charge constantly, based on the demand for tickets

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2M4W2KT - The Elizabeth line is a high-frequency hybrid urbansuburban rail service in London and its suburbs. It runs services on dedicated infrastructure in central London from the Great Western Main Line west of Paddington to Abbey Wood and via Whitechapel to the Great Eastern Main Line near Stratford
along the Great Western Main Line from London Paddington to Reading and Heathrow Airport in the west
and along the Great Eastern Main Line between Stratford and Shenfield in the east. The service is named after Queen Elizabeth II, who officially opened the line on 17 May 2022 during her Platinum Jubilee year
passenger services started on 24 May 2022.
Under the project name of Crossrail, the system was approved in 2007, and construction began in 2009. Originally planned to open in 2018, the project was repeatedly delayed, including for several months as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
In May 2015, existing commuter services on a section of one of the eastern branches, between Liverpool Street and Shenfield, were transferred to TfL Rail
this precursor service also took control of Heathrow Connect in May 2018, and some local services on the Paddington to Reading line in December 2019. These services were augmented by a new central section in May 2022, and rebranded as the Elizabeth line. The outer services were connected to the central section in November 2022. By May 2023, the central section will have up to 24 nine-carriage Class 345 trains per hour in each direction.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2M6W9GB - Everyman Theatre is a theatre based in Regent Street, Cheltenham. There are two auditoria in the building - the 675 seat main auditorium and the 60 seat Studio Theatre, originally named The Ralph Richardson Studio after Ralph Richardson.
The Grade II listed building was designed by Frank Matcham and was originally called The New Theatre and Opera House. It was opened on 1 October 1891 with a performance by Lilly Langtry
In 1929, the New Theatre and Opera House gained a licence to screen projected film, becoming a multi-purpose theatre and cinema. The licence stipulated that the building must continue to present live performance as well as cinema.
In World War II, the theatre became a Garrison Theatre, to civilians and the US soldiers based at Pittville. Many actors from London left the capital to escape the Blitz, bringing big names to Cheltenham.
The Cheltenham Corporation ran the building after World War II until 1960. In 1959 the building closed and was at risk of being sold. The Cheltenham Theatre Association published an advertisement in September 1959 advertising Urgent - Wanted £3,000 at once, to re-open Cheltenham Opera House.
In May 1960, the Cheltenham Theatre Association published another advertisement titled Great News, which announced that the Everyman Theatre would open on Monday 22 May 1960 with a world premiere presentation of N.C. Hunter's A Piece of Silver, starring Joyce Heron and Esmond Knight. The Cheltenham Theatre Association rebranded itself as the Everyman Theatre Association (ETA). It enjoyed booking advantages and raised money for the Theatre. Its 50th anniversary in 2010 was a great success
sadly, Covid lockdown prevented the 60th. Members enjoyed a variety of social activities, but, even before lockdown, support diminished and the ETA was wound up in late 2021. The benefits transferred to a new Priority Access Membership scheme administered directly by the theatre.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2JD0MEA - The Queensway tunnel is a road tunnel under the River Mersey, in the north west of England, between Liverpool and Birkenhead. Locally, it is often referred to as the Birkenhead tunnel or old tunnel, to distinguish it from the newer Kingsway tunnel (1971), which serves Wallasey and the M53 motorway traffic. At 3.24 kilometres (2.01 mi) in length, it is the longest road tunnel in the UK.
Tolls have been a feature of tunnel use since the Queensway Tunnel opened in 1934. Although residents were originally told tolls would be removed when debts were repaid, this position was dropped long ago. Debts and tolls were increased when the Kingsway Tunnel was built in 1971 to relieve congestion in the first tunnel. The County of Merseyside Act 1980 enshrined in law the right to continue collecting tolls once the debts were repaid. The later 2004 Act created a legal position where tolls charged must rise in line with the Retail Price Index (RPI) as published in November.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2A4PJM1 - Fontaines D.C. are a post-punk rock band from Dublin, Ireland. The band released their debut studio album, Dogrel, on April 12, 2019
Carlos O'Connell, Conor Curley, Conor Deegan, Grian Chatten, and Tom Coll met in Dublin while attending music college at British and Irish Modern Music Institute in Liberties, Dublin. They bonded over a common love of poetry and collectively released two collections of poetry, one called Vroom, inspired by the Beat poets (Jack Kerouac, Allen Ginsberg) and another called Winding, inspired by Irish poets (Patrick Kavanagh, James Joyce, W. B. Yeats). None of the published poems were translated into songs, but the track Television Screens off their debut Dogrel started out as a poem and was turned into a song.
Lead singer Grian Chatten is half-British (his mother is English and his father is Irish) and was born in Barrow-in-Furness, England but grew up in the County Dublin town of Skerries, Dublin. Coll, Curley, and Deegan are from Ireland Mayo, County Mayo, Emyvale in County Monaghan, and Mayo, County Mayo, respectively, and O'Connell grew up in Madrid, Spain.
The band got their name from a character in the movie The Godfather called Johnny Fontane, a singer and movie star portrayed by Al Martino. Fontane was godson of Vito Corleone. They added the initials D.C. when a band in Los Angeles had the same name. The initials D.C. stand for Dublin City

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2A0TWP6 - Penalty notices for parking and motoring offences
Fixed penalty notices were originally introduced for parking and motoring offences, currently continuing in Great Britain under powers provided by the Road Traffic Act 1991 as well as in Northern Ireland
in many areas this style of enforcement has been taken over from police by local authorities. Some other motoring offences (other than parking) can also be dealt with by the issue of FPNs by police, officers of the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency or local authority personnel. A fixed penalty notice issued by local authority parking attendants is backed with powers to obtain payment by civil action and is defined as a penalty charge notice (PCN), distinguishing it from other FPNs which are often backed with a power of criminal prosecution if the penalty is not paid
in the latter case the fixed penalty is sometimes designated as a mitigated penalty to indicate the avoidance of being prosecuted which it provides.
If a charge is paid within 14 days of the 28-day period, the charge is decreased by 50%. Appealing against or contesting this notice, requires going through courts and hearings: if lost, the 50% period pay could be extended.
Penalty Charge Notices (PCN) should not be confused with 'Parking Charge Notices, the latter, being issued by private landowners seeking to impose a charge for parking on private land.

Ian Kevin Curtis (15 July 1956 18 May 1980) was an English singer-songwriter and musician. He was the lead singer and lyricist of the post-punk band Joy Division and recorded two albums with the group: Unknown Pleasures (1979) and Closer (1980). Curtis was known for his bass-baritone voice, dance style and songwriting typically filled with imagery of desolation, emptiness and alienation.
Curtis suffered from epilepsy and depression and took his own life on the eve of Joy Division's first North American tour and shortly before the release of Closer. His death led to the band's dissolution and the subsequent formation of New Order.
Despite their short career, Joy Division have exerted a wide-reaching influence. John Bush of AllMusic argues that they became the first band in the post-punk movement by ... emphasizing not anger and energy but mood and expression, pointing ahead to the rise of melancholy alternative music in the '80s.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2AFK65H - Blondie is an American rock band founded by singer Debbie Harry and guitarist Chris Stein. The band were pioneers in the early American new wave and punk scenes of the mid-late 1970s. Its first two albums contained strong elements of these genres, and although successful in the United Kingdom and Australia, Blondie was regarded as an underground band in the United States until the release of Parallel Lines in 1978. Over the next three years, the band achieved several hit singles including Heart of Glass, Call Me, Rapture and The Tide Is High and became noted for its eclectic mix of musical styles incorporating elements of disco, pop, reggae, and early rap music.
Deborah Ann Harry is an American singer, songwriter, model and actress, known as the lead singer of the new wave band Blondie. Her recordings with the band reached number one in the U.S. and UK charts on many occasions from 1979 to 1981.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy P307GP - Altrincham Interchange is a transport hub in Altrincham, Greater Manchester, England. It consists of a bus station on Stamford Road, a Northern Rail-operated heavy rail station on the Mid-Cheshire Line, and a light rail stop which forms the terminus of Metrolink's Altrincham Line.
The original heavy rail element of the station was opened by the Manchester, South Junction and Altrincham Railway as Altrincham and Bowdon railway station in April 1881, changing to Altrincham railway station in May 1974. The Metrolink element opened in June 1992. The Interchange underwent a complete redevelopment, at a cost of £19 million, starting in mid-July 2013. The new bus station opened officially on 7 December 2014.
Altrincham Interchange has four platforms. Two bay platforms are used for Metrolink services. Two further through platforms accommodate train services on the line between Manchester Piccadilly and Chester via Stockport. A bus station on the edge of the complex provides road-based interchange, and there is also a taxi rank.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy MXFF3W - The Glasgow Subway is an underground metro line in Glasgow, Scotland. Opened on 14 December 1896, it is the third-oldest underground metro system in the world after the London Underground and the Budapest Metro. It is the only heavy rail underground metro system in the United Kingdom outside London, and also the only one in the United Kingdom which operates completely underground. It is also one of the very few railways in the world with a track running gauge of 4 ft (1,219 mm). Formerly a cable railway, the Subway was later electrified, but its twin circular lines were never expanded. The line was originally known as the Glasgow District Subway, but was later renamed Glasgow Subway Railway. It was so called when taken over by the Glasgow Corporation who renamed it the Glasgow Underground in 1936. Despite this rebranding, many Glaswegians continued to refer to the network as the Subway. In 2003 the name Subway was officially readopted by its operator, the Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT). A £40,000 study examining the feasibility of an expansion into the city's south side is in progress.
The system is not the oldest underground railway in Glasgow
that distinction belongs to a 3.1 mi (5.0 km) section of the Glasgow City and District Railway opened in 1863, now part of the North Clyde Line of the suburban railway network, which runs in a sub-surface tunnel under the city centre between High Street and west of Charing Cross. Another major section of underground suburban railway line in Glasgow is the Argyle Line, which was formerly part of the Glasgow Central Railway.
The Subway runs from 06:30 to 23:40 Monday to Saturday and 10:00 to 18:12 on Sunday

The Subway runs from 06:30 to 23:40 Monday to Saturday and 10:00 to 18:12 on Sunday.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy HEJ5KF - The National Rail Conditions of Travel (NRCoT) are a contractual document setting out the consumer's rights and responsibilities when travelling on the National Rail railway network in Great Britain. These replaced the National Rail Conditions of Carriage (NRCoC) as of October 1st 2016.
When a train ticket is purchased, a contract is established. The NRCoT are the principal terms of that contract between traveller and train operating company (TOC), which have been established by the Rail Settlement Plan, which is part of the Association of Train Operating Companies. The document is available for public viewing at the National Rail website, and also as a free PDF download.
Additional terms do apply to travellers, primarily from two sources:
For certain ticket types (such as those purchased at discount in advance), the TOCs concerned apply additional terms and conditions on top of the NRCoT.
The NRCoT cover the entitlement and restrictions of travellers, however they are not the only document to do so. Under the Transport Act 2000 (section 219), the Railway Bylaws also apply, though more generally.
Whilst the NRCoT are referred to on all train tickets, at stations, and on internet sites selling tickets for rail travel, very few travellers ever bother to read the document, unless they find themselves in dispute with a rail company on some matter. They are, however, of use to the consumer, because they afford considerable rights to the traveller with regards ticket validity. This has become a matter of significant public interest recently, in view of the complex and convoluted pricing structure of rail tickets in Great Britain.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy HDWT7P - City Sightseeing is a World's largest excursion sightseeing bus tour operator. It provides tour bus services in more than a hundred cities around the world. The tours are operated by well-recognisable red open top double-decker buses.
The tourist attraction buses travel near major landmarks, while a prerecorded or live commentary in multiple languages is provided through small headphones to passengers. Tourists may leave and board the company buses within their ticket's time limit at special bus stops on a circular route. This is called hop-on-hop-off. In large cities buses go on more than one route. On some routes buses leave the city for suburban sights (such as from Sintra to Cabo da Roca). In some cities (such as New York City) buses operate even at night. In some cities (such as Prague, Moscow, Saint Petersburg) some variants of the ride include travelling by boat. The United Kingdom, Italy and Spain are the countries with the largest number of cities with City Sightseeing service.
Tickets are issued for either one or two day rides, and are purchased at tourist attractions or online. Tickets and discount offers are transferable between the worldwide tours. In some cities, rides by City Sightseeing are included in the city's guest card. A free map of the route for each city is offered as guide and advertisement as well as headphones are free for users. In 2011, nearly 13 million tourists took City Sightseeing tours

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy F7NBP8 - München Hauptbahnhof (German for Munich main railway station) is the main railway station in the city of Munich, Germany. It is one of the three long distance stations in Munich, the others being München-Pasing and München Ost. München Hauptbahnhof sees about 450,000 passengers a day, which puts it on par with other large stations in Germany, such as Hamburg Hauptbahnhof and Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof.
It is one of 21 stations classified by Deutsche Bahn as a category 1 station. The mainline station is a terminal station with 32 platforms. The subterranean S-Bahn with 2 platforms and U-Bahn stations with 6 platforms are through stations.
The first Munich station was built about 800 metres to the west in 1839. A station at the current site was opened in 1849 and it has been rebuilt numerous times, including to replace the main station building, which was badly damaged during World War II.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy EBFWFM - South West Trains (SWT) is a British train operating company owned by Stagecoach Group operating the South Western franchise.
It operates the majority of commuter services from its Central London terminus at London Waterloo to South West London as well as most outer suburban/regional services in Surrey, Hampshire and Dorset. It also provides regional services in Devon, Somerset, Berkshire, and Wiltshire and on the Isle of Wight. The area of operation, essentially the former South Western division of Network SouthEast, is also roughly that of the pre-1923 London and South Western Railway (excluding everything west of Exeter). The Stagecoach Group took over the franchise on the privatisation of British Rail in 1996 and retained it in 2004 and again in 2007 making it, along with Chiltern Railways, Virgin Trains and First Great Western, the longest-running franchise. It is a particularly complex operation due to the large number and variety of services.

Manchester evg News Review - https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/whats-on/music-nightlife-news/gig-review-fall--manchester-7129956
I've seen Mark E Smith at a range of venues, from sweaty club gigs to confusing 100,000 Gorillaz fans at Glastonbury's main stage, but to see Manchester's most dissident music icon at the city's cathedral felt like it would be a surreal experience.
When the man himself strode past paying customers into the main nave of the grand old building, with the assurance of a man who very much owned the place, it was a double-take moment which seemed fitting of the whole event.
The Fall have been an unusually settled outfit in recent years, now on their fourth consecutive studio album with the same line-up.
For a band which has clocked up almost 70 members one of whom was reportedly fired by its iconic frontman and dictator-in-chief for ordering a salad it's been a period of relative calm which could have brought accusations of sterility.
The rousing opener Your Future, Our Clutter' quickly dispels any fears of the serene venue taking away any of The Fall's traditional sting, if anything the acoustics of the cathedral add another layer to Smith's barking, hectoring vocals.
The follow-up number I'm not from Bury' seems appropriate as the Prestwich rock deity holds his hometown crowd in the palm of his hand, especially the ones craning their necks around the cathedral's dramatic pillars as he prowls around the stage like an overlord searching for something that needs correcting.
In nearing 40 years as The Fall's supreme leader Smith has exhibited a fondness for live-mixing' during sets a tweak of an amp here etc

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy H28RF5 - This documentary stock photograph shows Black car with Penalty Charge Notice, parking ticket. The subject gives a clear, practical editorial image for stories about parking enforcement, Penalty Charge Notices, local authority traffic management, controlled parking zones, car ownership costs and the everyday frustrations of motorists. A black car with a visible ticket can illustrate the moment when a routine journey becomes a financial penalty, making it useful for consumer advice, local news, council services, appeals, parking policy, street management and cost-of-living features. Parking enforcement is also tied to wider urban questions: how councils manage scarce kerb space, protect resident parking, keep roads clear for buses and emergency vehicles, encourage turnover for shops, support disabled access and balance income from fines against fairness and public trust. The photograph can support articles on parking apps, cashless payment, confusing signage, wardens, appeals processes, private parking firms, blue badge rules, loading restrictions, pavement parking and the relationship between car-dependent lifestyles and town-centre space. Search-friendly composite phrases include black car parking ticket, Penalty Charge Notice on windscreen, UK parking enforcement, council parking fine, motorist consumer advice, local authority traffic management and controlled parking zone. The value for image buyers is the instantly readable subject, ordinary setting and documentary style, which make it suitable for news, web, insurance, motoring, legal, council, consumer rights and personal finance content. It is also useful as a stock image for debates about whether parking enforcement is necessary street management or an unpopular revenue tool. The close, everyday nature of the subject helps communicate irritation, bureaucracy and public service contact without needing a posed person in the picture.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy CF23YW - Antique Ultimate Bell Punch Company Bus Ticket Machine with coloured tickets Made in England.
There were two main problems that faced the early bus and tramway operators with regard to fare collection. One was that of fare dodgers and the other was the possibility of conductors who would fiddle the takings, though it's only a very small minority who would do such things. The solution to these was the Bell Punch ticket system. This was quite ingenious as the system had methods to defeat both, however it was very labour intensive.
The Bell Punch Company produced an automated version of their pre-printed ticket system, which they called Ultimate. These used continuous ticket rolls with the values printed on them. Each ticket carried a serial number and a pre-printed value. The machines had several tracks each of which had a lever at the front that ejected a ticket, which was then torn off against a serrated cutter. The fare stage could be printed in one of three positions on the bottom of the ticket. Each new ticket roll had a piece of adhesive tape (which the conductor had to lick) to join it to the end of the old one, which was supposed to prevent the conductor having to change rolls mid-journey.
The system coped better with changing fare structures, but after a while, the machines became unreliable and would jam up. It was not uncommon to see conductors tearing off tickets from the back of the machines at busy times. Its also not that uncommon at the museum! In the West Midlands, this system was used by West Bromwich, Wolverhampton and Birmingham.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2NAWFW5 - Entry gate of the Black Country Living Museum in Dudley, West Midlands, photographed beside red brick industrial-style buildings and a sign asking visitors to purchase tickets from the Dudley Canal Trust. The image shows the museum's distinctive heritage setting, with brick walls, timber gates, cobbled or setted walkway, period-style architecture and visitors approaching the entrance. It is useful for editorial coverage of Black Country tourism, living history museums, industrial heritage, canal heritage, family days out, cultural attractions, museum entrances, visitor economy and the preservation of working-class urban history in the West Midlands.
Black Country Living Museum is an open-air museum at Tipton Road, Dudley, where reconstructed shops, houses, workshops, public buildings and transport exhibits tell the story of one of Britain's most important industrial regions. The Black Country became famous for coal, iron, glass, chainmaking, canals, foundries, engineering and intense urban industry, helping shape the Industrial Revolution and the manufacturing identity of the West Midlands. The museum recreates streets, workplaces and homes to show how people lived, worked, shopped and travelled when heavy industry dominated local life.
The canalside reference in the image is significant. Dudley Canal and Tunnel Trust operates nearby canal experiences, linking the museum area to limestone mines, tunnels, narrowboats and the waterway network that once moved raw materials and finished goods through the Black Country. This entrance view works as more than a tourist sign. It connects industrial buildings, canal history, ticketing, visitor interpretation and heritage education in one scene. The overcast light and red brick surroundings give the photograph a documentary feel, making it commercially useful for stories about Dudley attractions, Midlands tourism, museum culture, heritage regeneration, local history and preserving industrial places.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2P8H0WW - A tablet screen shows Viagogo secondary marketplace checkout pages for Eurovision Song Contest 2023 Grand Final tickets at the former M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool, with one ticket shown at £4,720 before fees for a live TV show that was one of the most sought-after UK entertainment events of the year. The image is a strong editorial concept for ticket resale, ticket touting, inflated prices, online marketplaces, consumer protection and fan anger over the cost of attending major concerts, festivals, sport and televised arena events. Eurovision 2023 was staged in Liverpool on behalf of Ukraine, with the Grand Final held on 13 May 2023, creating huge demand for tickets to the live shows and rehearsals. Official guidance said tickets were sold through Ticketmaster, while published event terms warned that tickets purchased by other means could be invalid. The visible Viagogo page, countdown timer, order details, £4,720 ticket price, booking fee wording and Eurovision branding make the photograph highly searchable for phrases including Eurovision tickets, Viagogo resale, secondary ticketing, ticket scalping, rip-off ticket prices, online checkout, fan exploitation, consumer rights, CMA enforcement, live event fraud risk and unauthorised resale. The image can illustrate news stories, investigations, policy articles, campaign material and opinion pieces about whether high-demand tickets should be capped at face value, how resale platforms present fees, the role of professional touts, bot buying, scarcity, dynamic pricing, unofficial sellers and the risks faced by fans desperate not to miss a one-off event. It also works for stories about digital marketplaces, booking fees, consumer law, entertainment inflation, the live music economy, culture wars over access to popular events, credit card protection, refund disputes, pressure selling, countdown timers, online harms, trust in ticket sites and public concern that ordinary fans are priced out by speculative resale.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy EBFWFJ - South West Trains (SWT) is a British train operating company owned by Stagecoach Group operating the South Western franchise.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2RFER19 - A penalty charge notice from Cardiff council, is an official notification that you have been found to have committed a minor offence, for which there is a standard penalty charge.

Prime minister Rishi Sunak has promised the UK Government will make sure that we're doing everything we can do to tackle ticket touts after Eurovision tickets appeared on re-sale sites for as much as £9,000.
Labour MP Kevin Brennan raised the issue in Prime Minister's Questions today, 8 March. He said a report by BBC Radio 4's You and Yours had exposed queue jumping online touts that had purchased Eurovision tickets and put them on sale for thousands of pounds on dodgy sites like Viagogo.
In this year when we are hosting Eurovision on behalf of war ravaged Ukraine, this latest example of rampant rip-off culture in Tory Britain is particularly despicable. Why isn't his government doing more to support genuine fans over the spivs and ticket touts? asked Brennan.
In response Sunak said, I'm happy to look at the documentary and make sure that we're doing everything we can do, and I'll talk to the Home Secretary about it. But more generally, it is a source of enormous pride for us to host Eurovision. I know it's something that everyone is looking forward to and we should ensure that there is a broad as possible access to seeing that. And we'll do everything we can to make sure that that happens.
The Eurovision Song Contest 2023 is to be staged in Liverpool at the city's 11,000-capacity M&S Bank Arena on 9-13 May.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2MKF77W - The Verve was an English rock band formed in Wigan, Greater Manchester in August 1990 by lead vocalist Richard Ashcroft, guitarist Nick McCabe, bass guitarist Simon Jones and drummer Peter Salisbury. Guitarist and keyboard player Simon Tong later became a member in their first reunion only.
Beginning with a psychedelic sound with their debut LP A Storm in Heaven, by the mid-1990s the band had released several EPs and four albums. They also endured name and line-up changes, break-ups, health problems, drug abuse and various lawsuits. The band's commercial breakthrough was the 1997 album Urban Hymns, one of the best-selling albums in UK history. It features the hit singles Bitter Sweet Symphony, The Drugs Don't Work, Sonnet and Lucky Man. In 1998, the band won two Brit Awards, winning Best British Group, appeared on the cover of Rolling Stone in March, and in February 1999, Bitter Sweet Symphony was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Rock Song.
Soon after their commercial peak, The Verve disbanded in April 1999, citing internal conflicts. According to Billboard magazine.
On 24 May 1998, The Verve played a homecoming concert in front of 33,000 fans in the grounds of Haigh Hall & Country Park, Aspull, supported by Beck and John Martyn. The band then played gigs in mainland Europe, but, on 7 June, a post-show fight at Düsseldorf-Philipshalle left McCabe with a broken hand and Ashcroft with a sore jaw. After this, McCabe decided he could not tolerate the pressures of life on the road any longer and pulled out of the tour, leaving the band's future in jeopardy, with rumours of a split circulating in the press. The band continued with session musician B. J. Cole replacing McCabe, whose guitar work was also sampled and triggered on stage.

It remains one of the most famous clubs in Northern England. In 1978, allegedly the American music magazine Billboard voted Wigan Casino The Best Disco in the World, ahead of New York City's Studio 54. Venue manager Mike Walker brought in Russ Winstanley, who had a DJ set at the local rugby club, to the Casino. At 2 am on Sunday 23 September 1973, Wigan Casino started its first-ever Northern soul all-nighter, with Winstanley as the DJ. After Winstanley and his helper Ian Fishwick, Kev Roberts was the third DJ at Casino all-nighters, who was quickly joined by Richard Searling Soul performers that performed there include Jackie Wilson, Edwin Starr and Junior Walker.
Young people from all over the UK regularly attended Wigan Casino to hear the latest northern soul artists and to dance. There were long queues to get in.

The subject can illustrate gambling, charity funding, consumer psychology, cost-of-living pressure, impulse purchases, shop income and the tension between harmless flutter and addictive behaviour. The location wording gives the subject enough geographic context for local and regional editorial use while avoiding a generic studio feel. Relevant editorial themes include railway station, passenger rail, train travel, public transport, cask ale, real ale, pint glass and brewery heritage, with each theme rooted in the visible subject, place or activity. Its value is in the recognisable setting, readable clues and documentary directness, making it useful for editorial coverage of changing streets, public services, heritage, retail habits and ordinary life in Britain and beyond. The location detail, Silverstone, strengthens searches for regional features, travel pages, local-history pieces and news use where a named place matters. Relevant editorial themes include railway station, passenger rail, train travel, public transport, Formula One, British Grand Prix, Silverstone and motorsport, with each theme rooted in the visible subject, place or activity. The scene has practical value for features needing authentic British or international street-level evidence, especially where policy, culture, business, tourism or social change is easier to explain through one clear example.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy HEJ5K6 - The National Rail Conditions of Travel (NRCoT) are a contractual document setting out the consumer's rights and responsibilities when travelling on the National Rail railway network in Great Britain.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy HEJ6CN - Photo shows Scotrail passenger tickets and £20 notes,Anytime day return. The image can support editorial features on public transport, commuting, passenger information, ticketing, rail and bus infrastructure, regional connectivity, station environments and sustainable travel. Transport images like this are especially useful where operator branding, vehicle type, platform or street context is visible, because they locate policy themes in a real everyday setting rather than an abstract transport graphic. The supplied workbook does not give a precise location, so the image should be treated as a concept or documentary subject unless the location can be verified separately. Visible wording, branding or signage noted in the supplied caption should be kept as search evidence because it helps buyers looking for specific editorial concepts, public messages, commercial streets, transport detail or local identity. Lighting, passenger density and weather should be checked from the image, but the subject is clearly a live transport or travel setting. It should work for editorial buyers needing authentic, non-staged British or travel imagery for news, magazine, blog, local government, heritage, housing, transport, tourism, retail, public policy or social commentary use. The caption should be checked against the visible photograph before upload so that any readable signs, weather, time of day and people context are accurately reflected without overstating facts not shown in the image. The strongest sales value is the combination of named subject, real location and everyday documentary style, giving picture editors a flexible image that can sit alongside features, opinion pieces, explainers, historical retrospectives and local news.
